Our Journey for 50 years.

The legendary youth drama of Showa
returns to the screen in Reiwa.

The TV series Our Journey for 50 years began in October 1975. The passionate coming-of-age story of Kasuke, Omeda, and Guzuroku captivated young audiences, and even after its broadcast, three special episodes were produced every decade. Now, on the 50th anniversary of its debut, the continuation Our Journey for 50 years has been produced as a feature film, bringing the story of the three friends to the big screen for the very first time.

Masatoshi Nakamura reprises his role as Kasuke, once again performing the theme song “Our Journey” along with the insert songs. Taisaku Akino returns as Guzuroku, Ken Tanaka as Omeda, and Nana Okada as Omeda’s sister Mayumi—reuniting the original cast from fifty years ago.

This is the story of the “fifty years”
they have walked together.

The project and screenplay are helmed by Toshio Kamata, the principal writer of the drama series. A veteran creator numerous hit dramas that defined the Showa era, Kamata now weaves a new story for the age of Reiwa.

For the first time, Masatoshi Nakamura—who also stars in the film—steps into the director’s chair. Having closely observed the work of the late Kosei Saito, who helmed the original series, Nakamura brings the spirit of Our Journey to the big screen.

Richly interwoven with footage from the drama series, the film offers a heartfelt reflection on the lives of the three friends. It is not only the stor Saito, who helmed the original series, Nakamura brings the spirit of Our Journey to the big screen.

STORY

Kousuke Tsumura “Kasuke” (Masatoshi Nakamura), his college classmate Takao Kanzaki “Omeda” (Ken Tanaka), and his childhood senior Shinnroku Kumazawa “Guzuroku” (Taisaku Akino) are now in their seventies, bound by a friendship spanning over fifty years.

Kasuke runs a small town factory with about ten employees. Omeda serves as mayor of Yonago City in Tottori Prefecture. Guzuroku, thanks to his wife’s support, has settled into the role of director of a nursing home. Each leads a peaceful life—until one day, Omeda visits Kasuke’s factory. Though Kasuke proudly introduces him to his workers, Omeda leaves abruptly, burdened by heavy thoughts.

Soon after, an incident occurs: dozens of pots being manufactured at the factory are shattered. Amid the wreckage, Kasuke discovers an old hourglass—the very one he once bought at the Tottori Sand Dunes with his former lover, Yoko. Though Yoko passed away twenty years ago, Kasuke is stunned when Guzuroku tells him: “Yoko is alive!”
